Pentagon conducts 20 airstrikes in Yemen
The United States has carried
out more than 20 Air strikes in Yemen targeting al-Qaeda in its first major operations against the group since a
substandard US commando raid left a number of civilians and a Navy SEAL dead.
The Pentagon said heavy
weapon system and infrastructure were used, meanwhile the group's fighting
positions were been targeted at the Yemeni governorates of Abyan, al-Bayda and Shabwah.
The US military did not
estimate the number of casualties in the strikes, but local officials told
newsmen that at least nine suspected al-Qaeda fighters were killed in the
attack.
It is worth noting that
the operations came a month after the 29th
of January 2017 raid on al-Bayda
that killed 16 civilians as well as al-Qaeda fighters.
